How many of you have gone to school? I don't mean studying about something specific like magic to be a sorcerer or however that's done. I mean a general school, with several classes and a lot of hours sitting on a desk doing nothing but listening to the teacher. Do that type of schools even exist in your world?

[No, he hasn't been thinking about the whole school thing since his talk with Selphie about it. No, he's not asking because she seemed to find it kind of important or at least useful. And that filter doesn't mean he doesn't want her to know that he's starting to be interested, because he isn't. Definitively.]

[After making that post and talking with whoever cared to answer, Ikki will be found wandering around town. He doesn't seem to be in a great mood, which isn't unusual but those that know him even a bit will probably notice that he seems to be in a worse mood than normal. He will be accompanied by his per, the wolf cub Hyoga, which will be running around happily and playing with him.

He will also end stalking wherever Selphie may be. As well as those he knew and the people from the "family" he got for ten days, but you won't see him bothering to go to talk to anyone unless they notice him first. Really, he had decided to pay no mind to the experiment and just throw it to his back, like everything else that bothered him. It was easier that way, to keep moving forward and not look back. Don't worry about the stalking, it's nothing serious, it's basically just that if they are outside and around Ikki will spend several minutes somewhere around them in a radius of ten meters doing virtually nothing besides being there.]

Schools like that certainly exist in my world, but I never went to one.

Have you ever thought of not going to them as a bad thing?

Well, I always wished I could go. But I... couldn't. So my father taught me at home, and I studied a lot on my own.

I did go to a year of college, before I came here, but that was graduate work, so it was mostly doing research instead of listening to a teacher all day.

So to answer your question... sort of?

Hn, I see. That's not exactly what I meant, you weren't able to go to the school physically but you still studied those things with your father and on your own. I meant to ask more in a manner of never going to a school or attending that kind of studies.

Ah. Well, then, yes? I suppose? In my country it's actually technically illegal not to go to school. But plenty of people don't anyway, or leave early. They almost always have a much harder time of it than people who stayed in school. So it's better to get as much education as you can.

[She pauses, and then adds generously,] It might be different in your world, though.

I'm not sure if it's different or not. I had to go to class while I was at the orphanage but after I was taken from there we had to focus on other things. No one ever said anything against it anyway, but then again, not many people would care about a bunch of orphans.

[If they did, there would have been a lot of questions regarding where they were sent or what happened with all the ones who didn't survive.]

No, it isn't quite like that...or even here. Children learn a trade early, where I'm from, so their training is pretty focused. The rest is taught at home.

Hn, that sounds similar to what I had. We were trained specifically for a job, so we didn't need anything else. We did study the alphabet and numbers for the basics but nothing beyond that.

Exactly. Summoners have to hone their talents early, so there isn't that much room for anything else.

Yeah, I've been told about it. But I don't entirely see the point of it, not regarding me at least. I'm not going to debate about if little kids should go or not, that's their own problem.

Not really, no. I wanted to be just like my mother. And then, later...I needed to be. As for the summoners at large, most were very insular. The outside world and its other ways of life didn't hold much interest for them.

[That's true. And it's partially why he's asking. Not that he has problems filling time, he's fine with meditating and all.

But a whole year without having to go to fight for Athena it's starting to be frustrating.]

As a Saint he's mostly automatically removed from the "normal" world, sure, Seiya and the others still relate to it and all, but that's just another one of those things they do to fool themselves. As if they had a place there, they stopped having a place in that world the moment they were taken by Mitsumasa Kido, maybe they never had a place there to begin with.]

I went to school in my world. I enjoyed it.

It depends on the teacher. A good one can make even a long lecture interesting.

I went to boarding school--in fact, I was there right before I found myself here.

I went to that kind of school, but it's been a while...

I was educated, as nearly all Terrans are, in a comprehensive scholastic setting for much of my lifetime.

[Robert pauses slightly, before adding:] Ah, but it was rarely sitting there and listening to a teacher. Rather, classes were far more immersive and intuitive than that.

Does your world lack an educational system? [It's a sincere question, though it probably comes off as pedantic.]

It drove me absolutely insane by the end.

Good teachers seem to be able to do anything.

[Ikki snorts. He doesn't mean to mock her words but he has heard similar things before, even the train to be a Saint was supposed to be "not so bad" with a good teacher.]
