[Ikki's currently walking around the village, not running but he's actually close to. He keeps looking around with a frown, his Cosmo reaching out trying to find something and failing. The Malnosso got him a curious gift, an arctic wolf cub. Why they thought he wanted one or would be good at handling it, he has no idea. Part of him does like the idea of having that animal with him, a companion of sorts, but really, he has never had time for pets or experience with them.

Which leaded him to his current problem. There's a wolf cub running all around the village, caring little about the snow or the surroundings. See him sneaking into shops and houses with the doors vaguely open and just in general run and play around. With Ikki trying to catch up with it. It would be easier if the animal's light vanilla fur stood up more in the snowed village as he keeps losing sight of it and the animal's Cosmo is still too small for Ikki to pick it up easily.]

Damnit! Hyoga! Come back here!

[The wolf cub, Hyoga, pays deaf ears to the calling. Probably because he's convinced that they are just playing. Help a newbie on the field of taking care of pets understand that the more he runs after it, the more the animal will keep running away?

Later in the day, once he's back home and has Hyoga with him, Ikki will make a voice post.]

Anyone around here knows anything about pet care? Dogs or wolves, specifically.

It's fine. I catch pirates like this all the time. It can only be breathed in if I allow it to be. [And since the smoke is part of his body, the only way he's going to do that is to kill someone, which Smoker doesn't do.]

Hn. I'm not letting it out anymore, not until it learns its name at least.

[Hyoga barks again.]

Hyoga was it?

[Pets the wolf cub under the chin with a single gloved finger.]

Yeah, maybe I should have gave it another name.

[Then again it fits it quite well. Hyoga barks happily and revels in the petting happily.]

Tch, had I known that was going to come out I wouldn't have pressed that stupid button.

[Chuckles softly, still petting more and ruffles behind the ears.]

He's not that bad.

Yeah, right. He's not that bad with you.

[The wolf cub is pretty happy with the attention and even attempts to lick Smoker's hand.]

He isn't anything like that with me.

[Ikki approaches them, intending to try to pet the animal. But Hyoga notices it and rather than wait decides to pounce on him.]

Argh! See? It even attacks me.

[Just laughs.]

Nah, that just means he likes you. I guess if you're really worried the Wolf God might look after it.

He has a curious way to show it.

[Holding Hyoga as the animal playfully nibbles him.]

The Wolf God? I'm not sure I like the idea.

[Ikki doesn't get along with Gods... And he really isn't up to go and hand the animal to anyone, not that he would admit it.]

Maybe it'll send down with some food.

Or maybe it will get even more energy, where does it get it anyway?

[A sigh.]

Anyway, is it really okay to keep staying here with this thing around?

[It's not a bad cub, he keeps his chaotic shenanigans for Ikki's stuff after all.]

Yeah, why not. [Ruffles the pup's head cheerfully.] Still less destructive than my men tripping over their drills.

But you're in charge of puppy-training.

So far it doesn't seem so much destructive as rebellious. Or it really isn't used to its name yet... Or just doesn't like to listen to me.

[He nods, yeah, he supposed he would be after all it's... His pet. He still wants to facepalm at that, really, the Malnosso were on drugs or something for giving him that. Who told him to push that stupid button anyway?]

I don't think it will be hard to train it to go outside, seeing how it loves to go there rather than stay at home.

Well, it looks like a winter island type, so it probably loves the snow. It'll settle down by summer I expect.

[Small pause as he realizes he just spoke about staying in Luceti through next summer like it's no big deal.]

[Yeah, Ikki gives you a look at that comment, but it's not an angry or annoyed one. After nine months even he is getting too used to the idea of being stuck here for longer than he would wish. He sighs and looks at the animal.]

Yeah, I think it's an arctic wolf. Which is what gave me the idea of the name. Still, it's too small to wander around like that, it can get lost.

[Protective much? Nah.]

Maybe we can find a really long leash for it? That way it can still run free, but not too far and people will know it's someone's pet.

I'm not a fan of restraining things, but you're right. I'm stronger than it so it won't be able to tug me around either.

[Hyoga barks and nibbles Ikki's fingers.]

It'll need a collar at the very least. Which store here would have those?

Probably just the item shop. And if you get a really long one, it's not really that restrictive.

[Smoker understands the idea of not like restraining things however. Since he himself hates being restricted.]

That's true... Do you have experience with animals?

[At least you seem to know more than him.]

Not that much. But we use animals for just about everything in my world. Seagulls for mail, den den mushi for communications, so I guess basic working knowledge is necessary.

Den den mushi? What's the difference with seagulls carrying mail?

They're like psychic snails that carry voice and sometimes video or faxes, but they have a pretty short range usually. Especially the ones you can carry around.

So they are like a telephone... You said your world was mostly islands so I suppose it's normal you wouldn't have those.

[Ikki hums in amusement for a moment.]

Must be hard to live in your world and be unable to stay in water without getting sick.

I have no idea what that is, but possibly?

[Shrugs.] It's not like I go diving or anything.

Basically a device that allows communication no matter how long or short the distance is, so long as there are wires reaching that place, so there are places where it can't reach.

[At least yet, he shrugs anyway and chuckles at his comment.]

I didn't mean you or the other people who had eaten a devil fruit of those. But there are people who get sick by just being near the ocean, at least in my world.

Wires? Sounds complicated.

Just by being near it? [Blinks in surprise.] Well, there are thousands of illnesses in my world, but I'm not sure salt air is one of them.
